El Rey Taco Truck Astoria

Astoria is known for Greek right? Well it also has a great taco truck at the corner of Ditmars Blvd and 31st St, just outside the DAstoria-Ditmars Blvd N/Q Station. The truck itself looks like any other taco truck in the city, but the tacos are anything but. Check out our thoughts after the break.

To most, tacos are the slop that Taco Bell throws at the masses or the dinner in a box you buy at the supermarket. To us, tacos are fresh tortillas, delicious meat and not much else.

To start, two fresh tortillas are filled with your choice of meat. They have ground beef, steak and pork. Pro tip, always choose carnitas; a slow roasted pork. They are garnished with cotija cheese, chopped raw onion, radish, guacamole, lime and cilantro.

The carnitas melts in your mouth like M&Ms, the flavor is incredible. Seasoned with what made out as salt, pepper, chipotle peppers, ancho chiles, and cumin; the flavor shines through. The garnishes compliment, rather than overpower, the meat. At $2 each, you can eat like a prince for $4.
